Cici Kong
Registered Music Therapist
Northland Regional Centre
Cici was born in Dalian, a beautiful coastal city in China where she started her musical journey when she was four, singing in a children's choir and learning to play the Pipa (Chinese Lute). She graduated with a bachelor degree in Music Performance (Traditional Chinese Instruments) from Xiamen University of China in 2012.
Since achieving her Masters of Music Therapy from the New Zealand School of Music in 2018, Cici has worked as a Registered Music Therapist with children with special needs at schools, and adults with dementia and mental health disorders at rest homes and day care centres. She is passionate about helping people to reach their potential and build connections through positive music-making. In September 2020, Cici joined Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust, supporting the wellbeing and growth of children and young people throughout Whangārei.
Cici particularly enjoys working with children, she feels like she herself receives a kind of therapy from experiencing their kindness, sincerity and generosity. She also greatly benefits from the experience of working with older persons. Cici’s practice is person-centred and strengths-based, she loves the positivity when people and music come together.
When she is not working, she enjoys Scottish country dancing, hiking, mindful yoga and learning NZ Sign Language and Te Reo Māori.
