Evelyn Xu
UoA Masters Student | Dance Movement Therapy
Evelyn is studying for a Masters in Dance Movement Therapy at the University of Auckland and has a background in psychodynamics, psychoanalysis and dance. She is from Chengdu, China.
Evelyn has six years of experience working with dance movement therapy in China. She mainly works with special needs children, adolescents, and adults with high psychological functioning. She works with adolescents on issues of adjustment and self-identity, and with adults on stress reduction. She has also run parent effectiveness workshops aimed at helping parents understand and better communicate with their children.
Evelyn learnt the traditional Chinese instrument Guzheng as a child. Now she is playing ukulele as a hobby. She loves the arts and strongly believes in the transformative and healing power of dance and music as art forms. At the same time, she has been working and practising in this field for a long time.
Evelyn loves rock and classical music. She also enjoys sports, fitness and cycling. She believes that movement brings vitality to life.
